Jack Runion was born and raised in the Culloden/Hurricane areas and grew up in the
Hurricane First Church of the Nazarene. After graduating from Milton High School in 1992 and
while pursuing his education degree at Marshall University, he began his music ministry at
Union Baptist Church in Milton as choir director and song leader. Jack has served in those
capacities and more in a handful of other local churches for thirty years. He and his family most
recently have been active at Church in the Valley, also in Milton, WV, where Jack was part of the
Praise Team, a Sunday School teacher, and shared occasional Sunday morning messages as a lay speaker.
The fall of 2025 will see Jack begin his twenty-third year of teaching at Hurricane Middle
School. He initially taught Spanish and for the last fifteen years has taught WV Studies. Earlier
this year Jack completed his master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction through Southern
New Hampshire University. He is recognized locally as a gifted soloist, and he is a published
author (A Bad Goodbye and After ‘While Crocodile). Jack is excited about this new ministry
opportunity serving as Minister of Music at Hurricane First Church of the Nazarene.
He and his wife Susan have four children: Emma, 25; Izzy, 17; Sammy, 13; and Charlee,
9, and they are expecting their first grandchild in October of this year. As a family they enjoy
traveling and creating fun memories together as they visit new places.
